Some years ago ma’habocath tried learning Japanese, but had no clear goal so this one stopped after several weeks of not really knowing what he was doing or where he was going.
But a few months back this one regained the spark from music, the most magical thing.
This one is trying his best to self-study (mostly Tae Kim and WaniKani) but not sure if what I’m doing is leading to my stepping-stone of “Listen to Japanese music as it is, no translations nor anything else.”
So! I’m going to focus my learning, somehow, into translating a song. And then another. And then another.
With which to begin, though?ma’habocath at first thought something from Kalafina or another “real band” but I doubt that would be easy for a beginner. So to keep things simple, and indulge my weeaboodom, I could translate something from anime.
I do still consider myself a metalhead despite… listening to very un-metal music for quite some time. So howabout:
An awesome anime opener, and good metal on its own even if the singer sounds too “Marilyn Manson” at times for ma’habocath’s tastes (but still better than all other male Japanese singers he’s heard thus far). However, this one wish to keep his harvest bowl mostly PG, at least where it concerns language, so it would not do well to transcribe lyrics about rape and murder.
So to the opposite extreme?
As delighted as this one is at the “cheerleading” of the Aquor’s (dare I mention I like this opening better than both the µ’s intro themes combined?) perhaps ma’habocath should stick to something less embarrassing.
A show very worth watching, and while it is a great anime opener the singer’s voice annoys me, and there’s too much engrish. Same problems with the following classic:
If I’m going to listen to a song for the dozens and dozens of times it’ll take me to get it “right”, I want to listen to a hot lady voice. Perhaps an old favorite, from what is still one of my favorite anime of all time (I can’t decide if this or Higurashi is #3 [#2 and #1 being Fate/Zero and Madoka Magica, respectively]):
Opening songs don’t get much better than this, and ma’habocath can personally attest that blasting Eternal Blaze while driving over 100mph under a moonless, cloudless starry sky is a (lyrically) magical experience.
However, again, it’d be slightly embarrassing to translate from a show starring scantily-clad 8-yo’s (even if these 8-yo’s are more hardcore than a thousand other heroes put together). But ma’habocath loves the singer Nana Mizuki very much. There are many songs of hers to choose, though!
Attention American pop stars: this is how you do a music video!
Epic pop music and my favorite non-metal pump-you-up song of all time. But ma’habocath wants to indulge weeaboodom…
ma’hab has been watching Symphogear lately, and enjoys its bombastic soundtrack…
Perfect! It’s settled. Synchrogazer will be the one. At least these !magical-!lesbians are well into puberty, and Hibiki is one brutal “bard-barian” as well, so ma’habocath will overlook unmanly elements and romaji.
…ma’habocath does not know when he will get around to this project.
…perhaps when this one has a firmer grasp of basic grammar.
